Extra lights fixed under the wall units of your kitchen can give your kitchen that additional touch. On of the easiest way of doing this is by fixing a light kit that can be simply plugged into the nearest socket outlet. The plus point of using a kitchen lighting kit is that this work is does not come under the Building Regulations- Part P as this does not not involve any work with the mains wiring of your house.
The kit consists of a number of fittings like tube lamps. After fixing these fittings, they are connected by cables and the very first light fitting is linked to the socket outlet through a lead that is plugged into it.
Before buying the light kits, you should make sure where each light fitting will be fixed. Also, the path of connections between the lighting units needs to be determined. Make sure that there is an available power close enough to the plug-in cable. If you want to hide the lights being the pelmets, then the size of each light fitting needs to be considered.
Check the kit to see if these components are included- tube lamps, mains connecting lead, cable clips, screws, cables to connect intermediate connections, and mounting clips.
To start off, start laying connecting cables in between the wall units. It should be ensured that the lead connecting the mains is long enough to be able to connect the first light to the power socket.
Once the connections are made, the only task that remains is fitting the pelmet lights. Mark the places of the fixing-brackets by holding the first light fitting at the bottom of the wall unit. Fix the brackets with a minimum clearance of 2 inches. Attach the light fitting to the bracket ensuring it rightly positioned. Mount the tube lamps on the fittings and connect the first fitting to the power cord. All connecting cables should be clipped in place before the power outlet is plugged in.
